Traders still confused over GST norms

KERALA: Even a week after the Goods and Service Tax (GST) came into effect, traders and consumers continue to remain confused over the implementation of the new tax structure. Small scale traders, in particular, do not know the norms for levying taxes for the products they buy from small time and household manufacturers.

The concern was aired by K.R. Balraj, who runs a chain of bakery outlets in Kanhangad. Mr. Balraj is at a loss over what tax he should collect for purchasing food products manufactured by small time and household entrepreneurs.

GST mandates installing computer systems and printers in every shop to account for the products bought and sold.

It should take at least a few more months to clear the doubts and allay the apprehensions of traders here, Mr. Balraj said.

The Kanhangad chapter of the North Malabar Chamber of Commerce has decided to hold an interactive session with Thomas Thumkuzhi, Director of the Gulati Institute of Management and a GST expert, here on July 10.
